A Great Lady

August 18, 2008, my Aunt Cora died. She was 91 years old. There are great women in my life, and I admire them all, but my Aunt Cora was remarkable. She lost her husband to an automobile accident when she was in her twenties which left her with four children to care for. She never remarried; she put her time and energy to working hard and raising three sons and a daughter. Times were difficult, and for a woman to find work with little education wasn’t easy. She found a job waiting tables at a local restaurant. She had a small house and her Mom moved in with her to help with the kids.

Her kids all turned out great because she set a good example for them, and basically gave up her life for them. But she wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. The one thing that was most important to her was being their Mom. And she did it with grace and dignity. There wasn’t a person that knew Aunt Cora that didn’t respect her as a great lady and a wonderful Mom.

I am so proud that she was my Aunt and a big part of my life. She was a beautiful lady and I love her and I will miss her. God Bless. Lyn

FARM COUNTRY

I bought a new camera, digital of course, in hopes of sharing some photos with my readers. Today, my husband and I had gone to Wal-Mart to pick up a few supplies, and as we do sometimes we took a different route home. Going down the road through farm country, my husband slowed the van, with no cars behind us we were able to stop in the road; and enjoy a doe and her two babies cross our path. Guess where the new camera was, you got it, home. This wonderful moment in the universe will only be shared in words.

It was a delight to see. They just strolled across like no one was watching. I love deer in the wild. I don’t love them eating my shrubs or my garden, but that’s a part of life. Driving through the country is enjoyable seeing the cattle and horses a long side the road. We can get so tied up in living everyday that we forget about the roots of America. Agriculture was our first occupations. We grew our food and sold it or traded it for our supplies. Sundays we gathered at church to praise the Lord for his gifts of the land and the safety of our families. When a neighbor needed a barn, we were all there helping to build it.

A Picture of an Old Farm House taken a few days ago.

The industrial revolution changed this way of life, and that’s not a bad thing. It’s just a new way. We are now in the technology revolution, and we continue to evolve. What will be next?

Will we find that we need to go back to our roots to save our earth? Have we gone too far or perhaps this is part of the plan God has for us. I don’t know the answers, but I know we learn from our mistakes and grow from them, if we take the time to study history.

Do you follow your gut feeling?

Do you follow your gut feeling, you know, that feeling you get in the pit of your tummy telling you to do something, when everyone you know is saying don’t do it. Decision making can sometime be a challenge, but to follow that inner wisdom or intuition or gut feeling is the answer. During my job search, I found myself faced with two job offers; one employer paid more than the other, but the lower paying job felt right. I had a gut feeling that this job was where I’d be happier, but I wanted the higher paying job. My family and friends advised me to take the higher paying job, but I followed my gut. It was one of the best decisions I made in my working career. I spent ten years with that company and built a nice 401k savings account for my future.

We all get a gut feeling about things, but we don’t always follow it. What is this gut feeling and where does it come from? I believe it is wisdom that has accumulated over years of learning. We store it in our brains and pull it out when we are faced with a decision. It is wisdom we don’t realize we have until we are faced with a decision and it surfaces. We get the gut feeling; you know what I’m talking about. There have been times in my life when I wished I had followed my intuition and didn’t. Do you follow your gut feeling? God Bless, Lyn
